Paying respects to ancestors with locals in central Vietnam

Today, we had a unique opportunity to participate in a local tradition of paying respects to their ancestors in the village of Ninh Phung, where we are staying in central Vietnam. As the alter of the family ancestors was inside the home that we are staying at, we were invited to be part of the preparations, prayers, and communal meal that all the neighbours had together at our home.

They started with offering food, drinks, and fruits to their deceased ancestors. The food was neatly placed in front of the altar with pictures and paintings of the ancestors. They lit incense sticks and made their prayers holding the incense sticks. They left the food there for almost an hour. Then everyone came back and setup the food for all of us to eat as a group.

It was a wonderful experience for us and we are humbled that we were able to join this tradition and be part of it.
