As we started looking for ways to work based on our own idea of making a living, we wanted to set some boundaries between work and personal life so we don't go overboard with work and have it takeover our personal life. The meaning of the word "work" seems to be different in many people's minds. For some, it meant the work we only do to make money and call it an income, for the the work done at home, work of housewives is not in traditional terms, "work". For some, work is just being busy and do things that don't make you look like you are having a lot of free time. We feel that work is anything that we do, including chores at home, volunteering, shopping, cleaning, taking care of the family, and everything in between. Some of the work brings in money and others not. But all of it is necessary for our wellbeing. So we tried to make as little distinction between work and living a life.
After some thinking, we decided to start with a maximum of 15 hours of paid work a week for Sam including the time for travel and planning. As Kathi was pregnant, we wanted to spend the rest of our time relishing it, preparing and planning for our future.
Sam registered with the Innsbruck city as an independent worker (Neue Selbständige) and with the helpful support from a childhood friend of Kathi and her boyfriend, we found two opportunities to teach Yoga. One was for group Yoga classes at Gesundheitszentrum in Völs and other was teaching Hatha Yoga for a private group in Physioraum in Schwaz. As a third venue, Sam also rented a room in Innsbruck, and started teaching Yoga by advertising it on Facebook, placing posters at local hotspots, and spreading the news about the classes by word of mouth. We were very happy with how this was going and Sam was happy that he was able to spread his understanding of yoga with people through classes, Facebook posts, and with a yoga blog.
